Norfolk County Fair Wins Two Major Awards
at Provincial Conferences
Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show was presented with two major

On Friday evening during the Ontario Association of Agricultural

sponsored by World’s Finest Shows to honour the best events in
Ontario. The Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show was presented with
“Fair of the Year”.
World’s Finest Shows provides family fun to fairs, festivals and
events throughout Ontario. Every year, the two units of World’s
Finest Shows plays at over 60 dates, big and small, from major events
like Ottawa’s Central Canada Exhibition to the smallest of street
celebrations. Of all of these events, the Norfolk County Fair and
Horse Show was voted as the best for 2007. Criteria was based on
attendance, programming, cleanliest and creativity.
On Saturday evening, as part of the Festivals and Events Ontario
conference, the Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show was presented with a
“Top 100” Award, designating them as one of the Top 100 of close to
5,000 events that happen in the province of Ontario.
“These industry awards are important to the Fair,” says Karen
Matthews, General Manager. “It lets us know that we continue to be on
the cutting edge of change and programming and that our community is
being recognized for all of the hard work that goes into producing
the Fair”.
“These awards are won on the hard work and dedication by our board of
directors, staff, and the hundreds of volunteers that help put on
such an amazing show,” stated Sharon Judd, President of the Norfolk
County Agricultural Society. “We appreciate the support of the entire
community, including the local businesses who come on board with
their partnership dollars. That’s the only way we can be creative
with our programming and hold our gate prices making the fair
affordable for our community”.
Last year, the Fair was recognized as a “Core Attractor” for Norfolk
County based on the Premiere Ranked Tourism process. The Fair was
also presented with the “Best Idea” award in November from the
Canadian Association of Fairs and Exhibitions beating out the Calgary
Stampede.

Best New Idea Award 2007
2007-12-07
Norfolk County Fair Wins Overall Canadian
“Best New Idea Award 2007”
Car Giveaway
SIMCOE - If the Norfolk County Fair hadn’t experienced enough “firsts” and
broken enough records, the Best New Idea Award 2007 presented by the Canadian Association of Fairs and Exhibitions came as quite a pleasant and welcoming surprise.
The Canadian Association of Fairs and Exhibitions (C.A.F.E.) is a governing body that provides leadership in the growth and development of Canadian fairs and exhibitions. This year’s award ceremony was held in Toronto on Saturday November 17th.
The Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show placed first for the Simcoe Chrysler 2007 Dodge Caliber car giveaway idea. In accepting the award at the annual conference, Karen Matthews, General Manager of the Fair stated, "We are committed to finding ways to engage our youth at the Fair. This contest was a great way to promote the fair throughout the year to our students and a way to entice them to work just a little bit harder at their studies. There was nothing more exciting than to give away a car at Fanshawe College Young Canada Day at the Fair. We thank Simcoe Chrysler for their commitment to our community and our students".
"Simcoe Chrysler is excited to win this award in partnership with the Norfolk County Fair. Giving away a 2007 Dodge Calibre was a great opportunity for us to give back to our community. My team and I live and work here, our kids go to schools in Norfolk, and Simcoe Chrysler appreciates the effort that our high school students went through to improve their marks and increase their chances of winning. We are committed to exploring ways to continue to give back to our community in the future ", says Tim Rodger, Owner of Simcoe Chrysler.
The Calgary Stampede and Exhibition placed second with their idea for convincing cowboys and cowgirls to sport the colour pink during competitions to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Third place went to the PNE for their Garden Display constructing a “living canvas” of topiary forms, which forged beneficial relationships with eco-friendly groups and garden clubs throughout Vancouver.
The Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show is in its 167th year, and is the fifth largest fair in Ontario, with over 120,000 visitors each year. For more information on the fair and any of the scheduled events, please visit our website at www.norfolkcountyfair.com or by phone at (519) 426-7280

Saturday Oct.6th, 2007 Norfolk County Fair Celebrates Canadian Citizenship
2007-10-04
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Saturday Oct.6th, 2007 Norfolk County Fair Celebrates Canadian Citizenship
October 4th, 2007- Simcoe
This year we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Canadian citizenship. It is a privilege and an honour to have the opportunity to bring this historic and very special ceremony to the Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show. On Saturday October 6th at 10:45 am, thirty new Canadians will be sworn in as Canadian Citizens. The Honourable Diane Finley, Minster of Citizenship and Immigration will be in attendance.
Each year, approximately 160,000 people become Canadian citizens (representing about 85 percent of all immigrants) and take an oath of citizenship at ceremonies across the country. The oath is a personal commitment to accept the responsibilities and privileges of Canadian citizenship.
To become a citizen of Canada the individual must meet certain requirements. There is a citizenship test that the applicant must complete and then there is the Citizenship Ceremony.
At the Citizenship ceremony, each individual is welcomed into the Canadian family and they accept the rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizenship.
Citizenship Judge Robert Morrow will preside over the ceremony and administer the oath of citizenship. If already a Canadian citizen, this ceremony will provide the opportunity to repeat the oath and re-affirm your citizenship and commitment to Canada.
It is our pleasure to extend our welcome to the public to come join us for this very special event. Following the ceremonies will be the Warrior's Day Parade
The Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show is in its 167th year, and is the fifth largest fair in Ontario, with over 120,000 visitors each year. This year’s fair features agricultural displays, craft exhibits, food vendors, art demonstrations, talent competitions, midway rides and many special events.
